Female Business Leaders Becoming The Norm

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Anousheh Ansari, Abigail Johnson, Martha Stewart & Oprah. What does all these women have in common? They are successful entrepreneurs.

Leading the group of successful female entrepreneurs is Anousheh Ansari, founder of Telecom Technologies Inc and Prodea Systems. Anousheh has sold multiple companies, her first being TTI Inc ? she is now onto Sonus Network Inc. Anousheh Ansari is also an avid supporter of the sciences, not only having been to space herself but also setting up “the X Prize”, a contest which helps finance companies looking to perform private space exploration.

Many female entrepreneurs entered business through a husband or family member, but then rose to outshine their significant other. Abigail Johnson for example runs Fidelity investments, a company her father originally setup, but she grew to be worth over twelve Billion dollars. Similarly, Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler has grown her husbands business in Germany to over six billion dollars.

It is hard to discuss financial successful women without mentioning media icons like Oprah – the daytime talk show host whose media empire’s worth has exceeded a billion dollars. There is also Martha Stewart who (when she’s not in jail) also runs a home making tv show, magazine and book series which has a book value well over a billion dollars.

Examples of smaller businesses founded by female entrepreneurs include henderson bas , and online marketing firm founded by Dawna Henderson. Dawna also recently led her company to be partially acquired by multinational conglomerate MDC partners ? more information about the acquisition is available at the New York Times article: MDC Partners acquires stake in henderson bas.

Many women still face discrimination in the workforce and business though. Women statistically earn less than men; this decreases their ability to walk away from a job to start their own company.

Many people still maintain age old stereotypes that women are inferior to men in performing specific tasks, making it difficult for women to start businesses in male dominated fields. Nevertheless, there is no question female leadership in businesses is growing: Women are now 2x as likely to start a new business than men are. In other words, women are becoming the powerhouses of new economies, creating money and jobs all over the world.

How Technology Can Make Your Business Life Easier?

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

There are a lot of worries involved with running your own business. From wondering whether sales will meet expectations to dealing with employees, worrying about bad checks and verifying the age of customers so you aren’t selling adult products to minors, there are many potential problems that could come up any day.

Fortunately, technology can get rid of some of these worries. While it can’t solve your disputes with employees, it can make it easier for you to accept payments with confidence and monitor the age of your customers.

The first and most vital piece of technology for making your business life easier is a credit card terminal. If you’re not accepting credit cards, you really should be. People these days love to pay with plastic, and you’ll turn some customers off by not offering the option.

While you’re looking at merchant accounts and payment processing equipment, see if you can get a card reader that allows customers to put in their PIN numbers as well. This will allow you to accept debit cards, providing even more flexibility for your customers (and lower transaction rates for you).

Next, if bad checks are a worry for your business, you’ll want to look into getting a check reader. This is sort of like a credit card machine for checks. Just insert the check into the reader and the amount of the check is automatically debited from the customer’s account.

You get the payment within 24 hours and it’s deposited directly into your account — you don’t even have to drive to the bank and physically deposit the check! Using a check reader can give you peace of mind because you’ll know before the customer leaves your shop if they can afford the check they just wrote.

A final piece of technology that is a great addition for people who sell tobacco, alcohol or other adult-oriented products is age verification hardware. Electronic age verification is done with the help of a device that looks like a credit card terminal and scans the barcode or magnetic strip on state-issued identification cards.

The machine then tells you whether the person is of age to consume whatever your product is. This takes the guesswork out of reading IDs and is a lot faster than having a person inspect each patron’s identification and do the math to make sure you aren’t selling to minors.

In some ways technology can seem like it makes our lives more difficult, always giving us more to read, watch and do. But in the case of your business, picking up some new technology can certainly make your life a lot easier.

From wondering whether sales will meet expectations to dealing with employees, worrying about bad checks and verifying the age of customers so you aren’t selling adult products to minors, there are many potential problems that could come up any day.

Find Qualities For Web Design Services

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Web site development is a key focus of our company’s activity. Web sites developed by our company help our clients present their company to their customer base. Today a web site is a complex solution that goes with many important components: web interface design, usability, programming and much more.

If you are looking to have a service provider to build your website for your business, then this article will show you ways to obtain it. E-Commerce is one of the most important technologies that have emerged from the Internet. It allows people to exchange goods and services immediately and with no barriers of time or distance. E-Commerce allows customers to go online and buy or sell almost anything they want any time of the day or night.

First, let’s consider what you need from your website design company. In a nutshell, you need a website that ‘works’. It should load quickly in all browsers. All the links should work. Visitors should be able to find you easily in the search engines and navigate quickly to the pages and information they want. Plus it’s essential that your website reflects the style of your company.

The fact is, your image is paramount in this networked world. Your website is a window through which the world sees your company. And their decision whether or not to do business with you depends on what they see. You have just a few seconds to impress your website visitor with your company’s professionalism and integrity.

So the website creator of today must understand search engine optimization, graphic arts, scripting and a host of other skills. Without this standard of professionalism, your business may fall by the wayside.

Firstly, you should look for a company with a good track record. Such a firm displays a portfolio of past projects on its website. An established firm is also usually a member of a professional organization or chamber of commerce. Look for the logos on their website.

In addition, a quality firm will offer a free appraisal and quote you a fixed cost upfront. Then after listening to your requirements, they’ll start work and give you screen shots that show exactly how your site will look. Then they’ll listen to your feedback and make any adjustments you require. In short, they’ll work with you until you get what you need.

Choosing the right website design company is a key step for your business. Get it right and you’ll have the confidence you need to develop your business, and your customers will have the confidence to do business with you.

Analytix Solutions also offers web and multimedia development services to its portfolio of clients. At every stage of the development process, from conceptual design to product release, Analytix processes ensure that the highest quality standards are maintained.

Why My Early Business Ventures Failed

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

When I was in my 20’s I had a buddy who was a budding entrepreneur, and he had such an infectious enthusiasm for starting his own business that I’d often be persuaded to join him in his entrepreneurial exploits. For some reason we didn’t know at the time we nevar actually became the millionaires we believed we could be, and looking back now I can see why.

All of our business ideas centred around dealing in used cars, as we both worked in the automotive repair industry and knew the market, so that wasn’t why we failed. But when I look back at what we didn’t do I now know why we did. So here I’ll retell the story of our failed business, and maybe you will see where we went wrong.

It would always start with a phone call from my friend to tell me of a car the chief buyer at the used car lot he worked in had found at a bargain price that we could buy. We’d pool our resources, and buy said car, and spend the next week cleaning, fixing up and making good our business investment. We knew the resale value of every vehicle we bought and always had the opportunity to turn at least 50% profit, and we’d rub our hands together with visions of our profits. We would advertise the car in the top used car ads paper in the area and even pay the extra for the papers professional photographer to take some pictures. When the paper was published on a Thursday we’d sit by the telephone and wait for it to ring.

Usually by Saturday we’d had few calls and decided our price was too high, and lower it for the next weeks listing. Looking back this was our second business mistake, the first was our ad copy in the paper, it sucked and that’s why we didn’t get any calls, not because the price was too high. So once we had lowered the price we did get calls, and viewers for our now bargain priced car. Almost without fail these potential buyers would come and offer us a much lower price than we’d advertised, because they were mainly small traders who knew the business better than we did, and had spotted the same car listed two weeks, and the price drop, and knew desperation when they saw it.

Invariably by the third week of poor ad copy, price drops and failed haggling we would drop the price to the point where we would only just break even. Someone would get a bargain, which usually would turn up on a sales forecourt for even more than our first price, or worse for our battered egos back in the same paper we’d used for a higher price than we’d even dared to hope for, but would not be for more than 2 weeks.

And this was repeated many times over several years, with the same results for our grand auto business ideas, no sales, no millions and still repairing vehicles for someone elses gain.

Here’s where hindsight shows up our business mistakes.

1. Poor ad copy, we had no hope of getting any calls on our great cars with our very basic and uninspiring ads, even with a picture. The words just didn’t sell.

2. Price dropping, when you start dropping your price, your potential customers will see you don’t believe in your businesses products or services enough, and if you don’t believe why should they?

3. No business plan, although we had tons of enthusiasm we had no solid plans, even if our first car had sold we would have bombed because we had nowhere planned to go forward to.

4. Lack of professionalism, as well as poor ads in the paper our business suffered from the fact we were two enthusiastic amateurs, with no telephone manner, and poor salesmanship, we also lacked in confidence to hold up our prices and stick till it was sold.

5. Impatience, I firmly believe this is our biggest business mistake, and one I see all too often in online entrepreneurs. Impatience will stifle your business. The budding entrepreneurs that were my buddy and me didn’t want to wait for our profits, we wanted instant results, and that just doesn’t happen. Ask any “overnight success” and they will tell you they only acheived overnight success after years of trying.

6. Doing the same thing, and getting the same bad results. We never changed our routine, it didn’t work, but we kept following the same steps, and failing in the same ways. We should have been testing, and tweaking our sales techniques, instead we used the same ad format, in the same paper, and dropped the price in the same way every time.

So take a step back, and look at your business practices, can you see yourself making any of these mistakes?
Are you expecting instant riches from your business? Do you believe that dropping the price will get you more sales? Do you need to improve your ad copy? Does your business portray a professional image? Are you doing the same thing every time but expecting different results?

Be honest with yourself, look for the mistakes you might be making and don’t keep making the same mistakes every time. Hopefully you can learn a little from my business mistakes and turn your own business around to be what you want it to be this year.

Third-Party Hardware Maintenance Vs Manufacturer?s Warranty: What?s Best For Your Business?

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

When purchasing computer hardware for your business, system availability is a major consideration. While you hope it will remain reliable, you need to manage the risk that at some time a critical system component will fail, calling for hardware maintenance.

Such failures often result in the system being unavailable to users until repaired. This ?system down-time? can be very costly when users sit idle and unproductive.

Many assume that the standard manufacturer?s warranty will adequately protect them. But the ?small print? of standard warranties can result in less than satisfactory hardware maintenance results for businesses. Even expensive warranty uplifts may not deliver adequate protection against these costs.

RESPONSE TIMES

One of your systems fails, so you call the warranty-provider?s telephone hotline and speak to an operator in a call centre — perhaps overseas — who simply takes a message.

If the failed system is under a ?next business day? telephone response arrangement for hardware maintenance, then your staff could be unable to do their job for a day or more before the warranty provider even gets around to diagnosing the problem. And with a ?best effort? onsite response, it could be several days before a hardware maintenance engineer arrives.

If the system loss has company-wide impact then the implications are even more serious. Standard warranties only cover you for hardware maintenance during working hours — so a failure on a Friday afternoon could leave your business crippled well into the following Monday.

Businesses that can?t afford this sort of downtime should look to specialist third party hardware maintenance providers that maximise system availability by tailoring support arrangements to meet your specific business needs.

Look for hardware maintenance service providers who offer short, defined response times — such as a guarantee of a response to your call within ten minutes from a trained hardware maintenance engineer who will solve your issue, and on-site response within two hours for critical system failures.

Also look for organisations who will assign a hardware maintenance engineer permanently to your account. This ensures that they become familiar with your IT environment and personnel — a factor crucial to ensuring speedy response and resolution of critical system failures.

PARTS HOLDINGS

Hardware maintenance response times are irrelevant if you then have to wait for parts to be shipped from interstate or overseas. Equipment manufacturers generally hold replacement components for warranty service in a single location nationally. As a result, you may be waiting for 24 to 48 hours while the part you need is shipped, delivered and installed.

A hardware maintenance provider which is focussed on maximising system uptime holds spares locally to shorten delivery times. Ask potential service providers for an explanation of their parts holding strategies and methodologies. Find out what ratio of spares are held against systems under contract and whether these parts are regularly tested. With sufficient local spares, hardware maintenance engineers can attend site with the appropriate part in hand to further speed the repair process.

BEYOND HARDWARE ‘BREAK-FIX’

A standard warranty will only cover you for the repair of your system, including the delivery and installation of replacement parts, and provides no guarantees as to when your hardware maintenance issue will be resolved.

A hardware maintenance service tailored to maximise systems availability, however, offers a lot more, including:

- taking ownership of the ?grey? areas — such as operating system issues and other causes of hardware problems.

- a first-call fix rate of over 95% — which means you won?t have to wait for multiple engineer visits before system functionality is restored.

These superior service levels meet the operational needs of businesses which are dependent on system availability. Ask potential hardware maintenance providers for customer testimonials and references to substantiate their service levels.

SO, IS A STANDARD MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY REALLY GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

A standard warranty service might be ?free?, but having staff unable to work — or customers able to contact you — could end up costing your business heavily in the long run. Even expensive warranty uplifts do not completely mitigate the risks.

The good news is that specialised and highly-focused third-party hardware maintenance solutions are available to solve this problem.

Your hardware maintenance agreement can be tailored to meet your specific operational needs and risk management strategy. Paid on a monthly basis, they offer you better cash flow and operational flexibility — for around the same as a manufacturer?s warranty uplift.

But most importantly, they can reduce system downtime by many hours a year — saving you many thousands in lost productivity and revenue.

The Seven Deadly Sins Of Business People #4 – Lust

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

If you read this introduction already, just scroll down and start reading about Lust, otherwise it is recommended that you read the introduction bellow.

Let?s analyze how these common vices can affect your business and your overall income. You may think that the concept of deadly sins is a religious one and do not apply to you, but you may call them negative tendencies if you want. The fact is that you can find them in more or less intensity within most people.

You may not realize that one of these tendencies may be affecting you until I show you the details. If you realize that there is a problem, I will also give you the solution so you can fix it. I will explain and compare now the most common negative tendencies among people with their corresponding opposite virtues.

Before we start, I need to tell you something . . .

I. Most sins arise from: FEAR.

II. Most virtues arise from: LOVE.

III. Sins, vices and negative tendencies demonstrate weakness, while virtues demonstrate strength.

In my opinion the biggest virtue of all is COURAGE/CONFIDENCE, because it is the direct fruit of love, which dissipates fear and sow all other virtues in human?s hearts.

This is a series of articles about this subject. The whole series contain the following articles . . .

1. Pride

2. Envy

3. Gluttony

4. Lust

5. Anger

6. Greed

7. Sloth

? Lust ?

This negative tendency is related to an inordinate desire for the pleasures of the body. Lustful people can not control themselves when it comes to experiencing certain physical pleasures. This is commonly associated with sex, but there are also many other areas that have to do with lust.

I will give you a few examples, so you can understand. If you need luxury to the point that you want it and you want it now, and you can?t control yourself, that is lust. Lustful people can not resist the desire to have a luxurious car with luxurious rings, a luxurious house with a luxurious marble floor, a luxurious partner/couple with a luxuriously hot body, luxurious cloth, fine wines, caviar and expeditions to exotic places.

If someone thinks too much and too often about sex, watches too much porn and is addicted to sex, that?s lust. It is a craving, a hunger, an intense desire that burns you inside. You need it and you need it quickly, by any means.

Now, don?t get me wrong. Sex is good. Luxury is good. The inordinate desire is what is wrong. The inordinate desire is what makes you commit mistakes and hurt yourself.

Lust manifests itself most often in the following areas: sex, power, image, wealth and entertainment. There are many different kinds of physical pleasures, but basically we can mention here the pleasures of the senses: taste, tact, sight, hearing, smell.

When some people?s lives spin around sensuality and their ultimate goal is to indulge themselves with all kinds of bodily sensations, they will often experience lustful feelings.

This sin opposes the following virtue: Self-Control. It is destructive because it can exhaust the senses by suffocation. Inordinate sexual activity can make you sick, because of sexual transmitted diseases, epidemic diseases, etc. Lack of control can get you in trouble, due to social norms.

How can this negative tendency affect you in business? It can affect you in different ways. If you are only concerned about getting pleasure, you may avoid work and tasks that do not provide the immediate satisfaction you seek. Your lack of self-control can bring you troubles.

Lust is associated with overindulgence. People that constantly seek the pleasures of the body tend to abuse destructive substances like alcohol, nicotine, drugs, etc. Some individuals believe that they are fine because they do not take any of these substances into their bodies. They don?t know that they don?t need to.

For example, what about excessive masturbation? This negative tendency changes the levels of dopamine in the brain causing a neurological effect similar to that of many drugs. What I mean by neurological effect here is that some chemical substances in the brain are altered producing anxiety and sometimes depression. The point is that it makes people less productive and less alert to profitable opportunities.

Remember though that to seek pleasure is good and it is a natural tendency also. The lack of control or the inordinate desire is what is wrong. There most be a balance in everything we do. Some people?s lives spin around pleasure. That?s the only thing they care about. By keeping a balance between pleasure and efforts we can live a better life, make more money and be more profitable.

If you read the other articles on this series, you will realize that the common characteristic behind this negative tendencies is: selfishness. If you are absolved with yourself, you will show one or more of these tendencies on your daily actions. The solution is to live a less selfish lifestyle. By changing your attitude, you may change the outcome of your actions. You may be amazed at the results and you will feel happier and successful.

Before Going Into Business

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

1. Why should there be anyone would do business with you?

This could be the very first question that you must ask yourself before anything else. You got to demand yourself to an answer to this. Why the heck on earth would anybody pay for this ?Junk? you?re selling? Yup, ?Junk?, as I phrased it. It doesn?t matter how good your product is to be, to the eye of others, it?s just another piece of product in a sea pool of other similar products.

So, still be very proud of your product or service? Truly you?re 100% proud of it? You truthfully and deeply believe people would be dumb by NOT buying from you?

Well?you passed the first barrier! You?re ready to start go to next stage.

2. The basic business needs 3 things: Lawyer, CPA, and Creative or crazy fellow, which could very well be you.

Almost every business gets themselves for the first two. It?s understandably so. Good creative person are really hard to find, hard to manage, and you?ll never sure of what you?re paying for.

Every established and sizeable business knows the creative side plays a heavier weight than the lawyer and CPA. CPA?s and lawyers can help you when you are up there. But at the early stage when your business is still an infant, your business live or die depending on it?s business branding activities in areas like business identities, logos, marketing campaign, advertising copy and business slogans.

Now, are you NUTS enough? Have people been calling you NUTS?
If so, you are ready for the next stage! Do give yourself a ?Cheers?!

3. Singing for Your Own? You Got To Promote Yourself In Every Possible Way.

Do all of them. Yes, Do whatever possible to get your business name to be up there! Get your Business Brand being noticed by others. There more the merrier!

Business can just comes and go so fast before anybody could hears of them. People are busy, what do they care? They don?t care about you and your business. Why should they care? Get serious. Do everything you can possibly and reasonably afford to do. But beware; you must not mislead others because it?ll backfire quickly enough to wipe your business off.

Do you ?Sing for your own self?? Then you?ve passed! Move on to next stage?

4. Big Decision: Could You Win The Competition.

It?s very likely that you?re entering a crowded business market when you first started. Take a hard and closer look at what other fellows are doing; what your competitors are doing right now could affect your business greatly.

At this stage, you got to decide: Are you going for ?Head to Head? fight? Competing on better quality? Crazier pricing strategy? Extra Mile Service Level? Better Marketing Campaign? or what else? Or you would avoid all that, and create you own niche, where you are the leader?

If you decided to be offering the same or very much similar product at the same price, but your marketing materials doesn?t look half as good as your competitors?hey, you?re in deep trouble! If you?re charging half compare to others, then it?s still alright to ?Look? cheap, simply because you are the ?Cheaper? alternative where people are looking for.

5. Marketing is basically just a matter Perception.

?Perception? is just another fancy word for thoughts. The thought by the public has in mind all about you and your ?Good? or ?Bad? business. Good salesmen control the perception more on personal level like putting on neat suit, very nice smile and sincere voice, firm handshake?etc.

And your business marketing campaign need to strive to achieve equivalent level of effects. And it needs to be at a more abstract level by means of having an attractive Business Name, Eye Catching Business Graphics, Professionally dressed-up staff. Any things that just might seduce and persuade a potential visitor to become a paying customer.

6. Your Business Identity; Your Business Equity.

The Business Name, the Logo, the projected Business Look, the public?s perception, recognition, or even affection if there is; these are critical to business success. Big businesses routinely pay big buck like million dollars for these aspects for the business.

Your Business Identity must be well organized to target at desired market. It?s what termed as the ?Face? side, the side which public always sees first. Work on refining it so it works wonders. Improve it to get better and even better, and then protect it, and treasured like your beloved!

Yup, there are so many people who just bought a ready business. But every time they run a new marketing campaign, they tend to fall into trap of projecting a different business image and look. Really, don?t ever make such mistake like an amateur.

Consistently stick on to the business branding strategy that your have chosen on the very early stage. This is your Business Equity. By keep changing the business look, you?ll get the public confused, and worse still if they see that you don?t even have the basic respect for your business identity.

Don?t destroy the business equity; you need to be utmost concerned with your business image to the public. It has its own personality. It has to stand out from the rest. It has to send clear signal to the targeted market: ?Here We are, Come To Us?, ?Get Us Today?.

Do Love Your Business, just like you love yourself.

Choosing A Mind-jarring Name For Your Business

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Choosing a Mind-jarring Name for Your Business…

One of the most important things your new business needs is a name. Your business’ name will often be the very first thing your customers see, and the very first impression you make on any potential customers.

Endeavor to select a name that says something about you and your business that people in your target market will remember easily. If the name conjures up an easily recalled mental image, so much the better! This can be especially true on the World Wide Web where competition is fierce, and you really can’t bank on anyone bookmarking your site or adding it to her or his favorite’s list.

In the everyday brick and mortar world, a good basic idea is to simply use your last name followed by what you do. For example, Smith’s Lawnmower Sales and Repair or Jones’ Heating and Air are suitable. They are also easy to remember. You might also consider expanding the name by adding the town where your business is located. For example, you could use Smith’s St. Louis Lawnmower Sales and Repair.

Another avenue of thought might be to leave out your personal name entirely, and simply become Tulsa Heating and Air. This makes you sound like the first choice locally, and will make it easy for you to target your potential local customers. However, if you’re in a business with lots of competition, be sure to check with the proper authorities in your city, county or state to make sure the name is not already registered to someone else’s business.

If you are planning an internet business, or preparing to put an existing business online, you should consider placing the actual name of your product or service in the URL (web address) even if that is different from your usual business name. For example, if you are selling cookies, you would want your URL to be something like www.cookies.com. If that name is already in use, consider www.fabulouscookies.com or anything else appropriate for your product. This is extremely important because many internet search engines will assign added value or weight when ranking your web site for anyone looking for your particular product or service!

If you are going to be a business-to-business service provider or vendor, you might want to consider a more corporate sounding name. Think of a word to describe your business, and then add the word “Consulting.” I know, people are tired of consultants, but it will nevertheless work better with business-to-business customers and vendors.

If you’re pursuing an even trendier market, you might consider choosing a less formal name. For example, you might want to name your business after an animal, and incorporate that animal into your logo. If you don’t have a large marketing budget, a logo is an excellent way to get started branding your business. Be sure to have your logo professionally designed. It’s going to become your public face! Branding can be incredibly important for your future success. For example, look at Government Employees Insurance Company – GEICO. GEICO utilizes that cute sounding gecko for virtually all its commercials now. What do you remember when you think of car insurance? Well, you might also think of Allstate. Are you in good hands? Yes, a catchy, attention-grabbing phrase is also an excellent way to identify your business to the public!

You can also employ a very short name or acronym. Take two or three words that describe your business, and shorten them to create one new word or acronym. So you end up with IHOP (International House of Pancakes) or IBM (International Business Machines) or P&G (Procter & Gamble)… This is a terrific way to express what your business does without anyone having a hard time remembering your business’ name. Even better, it makes for a great, easy to remember, and easy to type URL (web address).

Inevitably, for some businesses finding a good fit will be nearly impossible. In that event, you’ll just have to play with combinations of words until you come up with a name that sounds right and fits your business. If you do it well enough, it will be completely unique to your business. In fact, that’s not such a bad idea!

Another thing you might try is going to one or two of the web sites which show you the current key word phrases that are being searched for in your product line or field. You could also google some appropriate key words, and check the results pages for ideas.

Caveat – whatever name you select, invent, or decide on should be 1) easy to remember 2) easy to pronounce, 3) easy to type and 3) easy to spell. Also, as mentioned earlier, insure that no one else has a prior claim on your new name. Do that before you do any advertising or logo design work. You certainly don’t want to design and build a web site around someone else’s name!

It is a good idea to bounce your planned name off a few other people to make sure it really is suitable. One good way to do this is to post a note in appropriate internet newsgroups, or in a business oriented online forum.

Finally, after you have made a choice, sleep on it for a few days to make absolutely sure it is the right choice. Sometimes a couple days make a big difference in your thinking and in your perception.

EBusiness – Small Business Necessity

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

The rapid growth of the internet commerce in recent years presents established small businesses with a serious dilemma. On the one hand, they can stick with the business model that has worked for them for the last number of years. On the other hand, they can make the shift to serious eBusiness.

Choosing to stand pat is usually much easier in the short term. But in the longer term this almost certainly means they will be left behind by technology, and lose many of their most important clients to more aggressive competitors.

But shifting to eBusiness may involve committing substantial resources to developing a new game plan. That usually means refining product lines to make them easier to sell online, upgrading computer systems and websites, and training personnel at all levels to be more web savvy. It also means developing or hiring staff to handle the administration of new marketing, sales, and delivery systems, and working with outside consultants and service providers to handle the technical aspects of the new program that cannot be handled by your own people.

Is adopting an eBusiness Solution worth the effort?

Are the short term difficulties involved in making the transition to eBusiness worth the effort?

In virtually all cases, Yes.

It is like any other investment in your business. Some businesses look at the cost of upgrading production equipment or of renovating their office or retail space and decide it is simply not worth the cost. They decide the future is too uncertain to risk moving ahead, so they opt to tread water until either circumstances change, or they simply cannot continue any longer in business.

In this sense, choosing to stay abreast of technological changes is a business necessity. And these days, deciding to get involved with eBusiness is the most important technological decision many current businesses will ever make.

Advantages of eBusiness

Here are some of the more important advantages of moving to eBusiness.

You can develop a more cost-effective Communication and Marketing Strategy – The most obvious advantage of “upgrading” to eBusiness is that it gives you a vital web presence. In an upgraded “eBusiness environment” your company web site becomes the focal point of your communications and marketing strategy. And in an era when an increasingly large number of people are using the web as their first source of product and service information, “being there” 24/7 is extremely important.

You can reach New Markets World Wide – The internet offers exciting ways of reaching new markets that could only be dreamed of in the past. There are methods of promoting your products online that allow you to precisely target the customers you are after whether they are in your town or on the other side of the world.

You can reach Local Customers and Prospects more effectively – Until recently, companies offering a product or service to local customers could not see the benefits of having an online presence. But as more and more people become comfortable with using the internet instead of traditional advertising sources like classified ads or yellow pages, having an aggressive web presence makes better business sense even for local companies. This may also offer a springboard to developing new markets further afield.

You can cut Advertising and Marketing Costs – Online advertising is not only more efficient, but it is often less expensive than traditional advertising. After sales training expenses can also be reduced by utilizing online seminars, training videos and tutorials.

You can streamline the Ordering Process by taking orders online – Implementing an online ordering system allows you to eliminate manual paper work or telephone order taking. It also offers the possibility of integrating your sales order system with order fullfillment and delivery so customers can be up to speed on the progress of their orders at all times.

You can cut Communications and Telephone Costs – While the costs of voice communications using long distance telephone services have been coming down rapidly over the last few years, switching to an eBusiness model offers the possibility of totally eliminating many of these costs. Of course there is traditional email. But beyond that, there are systems like “Live Help” where customers can chat live with support or sales staff. And the most recent development is VoIP (Voice Over Internet) which promises to completely revolutionize telephone service.

Finding the right eBusiness Solution

Every business is unique, so every business will require a unique eBusiness solution. Chances are most small businesses will not have the resources inhouse to make the move. In that case they should find an eBusiness solution provider that takes a comprehensive approach to each situation. Rather than offering a pre-packaged program, they should be able to look carefully at a business and make recommendations based on its specific needs. That includes the ability to provide staff training and ongoing support long after the initial system is put in place.

Placing Your Business On The Web

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

This article is a follow up to an earlier article I submitted a few days ago about improving your business for the New Year. In this article I will cover the advantages and some of the details that you should think about as a small business or home base business owner before you create a website. Also I will include some information that you should examine for web hosting for your company?s webpage.

By putting your company on the web it opens your company up to the large market the whole world of people on the internet. Now even though you do this it does not translate in to money right away and nor does it mean that you will be swamped with orders the next day. Pretty much there is a good chance that your business web link will just be buried by all the other existing websites and it takes time and lots of people visiting your site to even show up on the web search engines like Yahoo and Google. What the website does is help market your business and gives you another selling tool for your business products and services. It also provides easy to find important information about you and your company for potential investors and customers that are not sitting in front of you at that time.

Down the road it can be a good way to retail a products and services but first you have to let it build on the World Wide Web. Yes sometimes you can help speed up this process but it will cost you more money and you have to make sure that it is being done properly. Even though putting your business on the World Wide Web can be great for your business it can also be bad if it is not handled properly and you pay fee after fee and you don?t see any return for the money you put into that part of the business.

I have seen what I call bad Web exposure where you have companies that offer promotion programs offering high level web traffic and exposure which can turn out to be nothing more then programs that truly does nothing for your business in any way but just puts your business into the hole which can get really get deep if your not watching the promotion program your company is having run by the company performing the service.

So at this point your thinking maybe this is a good idea or a bad idea and to be honest you truly have to look at your business first before you move on. After you look at your core business then look at how a Website may or may not benefit your business. Now I can tell you that in most case it will truly can benefit your small business or home office if for no other reason then just to promote and present your business in a positive way after all there is a good chance that your customers, business partners and potential investors have access to the Web access and a nicely designed web page be a good starting place to send them.

Usually you can setup a website either on your own using and HTML editor or FrontPage. There lots of free HTML editors and it is pretty easy software to learn. You can of course learn from other web pages just find a few and use them as a sample.

However if you?re a busy trying to run your business then it might be quicker and much easier to just hire someone to create your webpage. There is a good chance that you can find someone that will do the work for you of course the price will very depending on what all you want on your webpage. I believe that you can get a pretty basic website with key things on it for around $100 but that is just an estimate.

Once you got an initial webpage ready you need to find a web hosting company for your company?s webpage. As you looking for a web hosting company I would recommend some key features besides the price to keep in mind. The first thing I would look at is how long the web hosting company has been in business the reason for this is that there are lots of new start up hosting companies these days and not all of them have been around long enough to know how good of a service they provide also the longer the hosting company has been around the more stable they are usually and have a good financial business. I also recommend looking at reviews for web hosting companies by others it give you a good start.

Another thing to keep in mind is once you have a few Web hosting companies in mind look at how much support they provide along with assistance on setting your site. I also would look for service they provide for tracking site statistics for your site.

The next thing I would look at is the services that are provide for the money they charge. Take a look at the server space that they will give you along with how much bandwidth just to name a couple of items. If you are planning on selling goods or services through your site they you need to look at the E-commerce capabilities and how easy it is for you to add-on to your website.

In conclusion putting your small business or home based business on the web is good way to promote your business in many different ways. Although there is cost involve if done properly a well designed and properly promoted webpage can really help your company.
